Windows That Look Good and Perform Properly

A window should open and close smoothly, seal against the weather, and bring natural light into your home without creating uncomfortable drafts. When windows stick, leak, fog, or show signs of damage, they can affect both the room and the surrounding wall.

We evaluate the window, frame, trim, and nearby surfaces to understand the source of the problem. This helps determine whether a targeted repair or full replacement is the better long-term option.

When to Repair or Replace a Window

Not every problem requires a new window. Damaged hardware, worn seals around the frame, deteriorated caulking, or minor trim damage may be repairable.

Replacement may be the better choice when a window has extensive frame deterioration, recurring leaks, damaged glass, failed insulated panes, or poor overall performance. We’ll explain what we find so you can make an informed decision based on the condition of the window and your plans for the home.

Reducing Drafts and Improving Comfort

Cold glass, air leakage, direct sunlight, and poorly sealed frames can make rooms uncomfortable throughout the year. A window’s age is only one factor; installation quality, glass type, frame condition, and orientation also influence its performance.

We consider the entire opening—not just the window unit—to help reduce drafts and create a more secure, weather-resistant installation.

Window Installation for Remodels and Additions

Windows play an important role in natural light, ventilation, privacy, and the appearance of a remodeled room. Their size and placement can also affect furniture layouts, cabinetry, and exterior elevations.

We coordinate window installation with framing, siding, drywall, trim, and other construction phases so the opening is built correctly and the finished window fits naturally inside and outside the home.

Protecting the Area Around the Window

Stains, peeling paint, soft trim, or swollen drywall around a window may indicate water intrusion. Covering the visible damage without correcting the source can allow the problem to continue behind the wall.

We inspect the surrounding area, identify likely points of entry, and address the necessary window, flashing, sealing, or finish repairs before restoring damaged surfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why is there fog or moisture between the panes of glass?
Moisture between panes usually means the seal in an insulated glass unit has failed. The glass unit may be replaceable in some windows, while others may require full replacement depending on their age, construction, and overall condition.
What is the difference between insert and full-frame window replacement?
An insert window fits inside the existing frame, which can limit disruption but slightly reduce the glass area. A full-frame replacement removes the existing unit down to the rough opening, allowing the framing, insulation, and flashing to be inspected and updated.
Why does a relatively new window still feel drafty?
The window itself may not be the problem. Gaps around the frame, missing insulation, failed caulking, improper installation, or air movement across cold glass can all feel like a draft. The entire opening should be evaluated before deciding on a solution.
Does condensation on the inside of a window mean it is leaking?
Not necessarily. Interior condensation often develops when warm, humid indoor air meets cold glass. Frequent or heavy condensation may point to high indoor humidity, limited ventilation, or a window with poor thermal performance rather than an exterior leak.
Can a window with rotted wood be repaired?
Minor, localized deterioration may be repairable if the surrounding wood remains solid and the source of moisture is corrected. Widespread rot, structural damage, or recurring leaks may make frame or window replacement the more reliable option.
Can an existing window be made larger?
Often, but enlarging an opening is more involved than replacing a window with one of the same size. The project may require structural framing, a new header, exterior siding work, interior drywall and trim repairs, and applicable permits. The wall should be evaluated before the new size is selected.
